The Office of Student Financial Planning is here to help you make the most of the financial aid available to you, whether you are taking classes on campus, traveling with Mercer On Mission, enrolling in an online class from anywhere in the world, or pursuing a different option to stay on track toward your degree.
Discounted tuition
Take advantage of summer tuition, which is typically offered at about 50% of the fall/spring tuition rate per credit hour. In Summer 2023, tuition is $515 per credit. Additional information about tuition and fees can be found on the Bursar’s Office website.
Types of aid available for Summer at Mercer
Did you know that many students qualify for financial aid that can cover the entirety of their summer tuition? Take a look at the types of aid below to learn about your options.
To receive federal aid, a student must enroll in at least 6 summer credit hours.
Pell Grant – Pell-eligible students (those who are awarded a Pell grant during the academic year) may receive Pell during the summer. If enrolled in 6 hours, an eligible student can receive the part-time Pell Grant.
Federal Loans – A student may receive federal loans that they did not use during the fall and spring semesters. This is typically applicable to students who have reached a new class status upon completing spring coursework, such as those who have advanced past the 30 hours or 60 hours earned mark.
PLUS Loans – A student’s parent may apply for the Parent PLUS Loan as long as the student is enrolled in at least 6 hours during the summer.
Students eligible for the HOPE or Zell Miller Scholarship may receive the half-time scholarship amount as long as they are enrolled in at least 6 credit hours.
Students can choose to pursue loans through a private lender. Sparrow allows students to compare personalized private student loan offers from 15+ lenders through a simple application. Using Sparrow is free, and it does not impact your credit score. Mercer recommends exhausting all federal and state eligibility before applying for a private education loan.
